on automatic cummins, why do they have a plastic cap covering the whole top of the injection pump(excluding the smoke screw). and not the manuel? why is that???

that square plastic thing is the tps(throttle position sensor) which is only needed for automatic transmissions with overdrive. So its only on the dodges with the a518 overdrive transmission.

ok it can easily be removed to mess with the pump right,? and not mess up the pump?

yes wont hurt anything just make sure you put the little plastic adjuster nut thingy that sits under it in the same way you took it out.

That explains why my 1990 dually with A727 Torqueflite doesn't have one.
